For your prime consideration is this extremely rare Liberty 5×14 solid walnut snare drum in stunning Sea Green Pearl, our personal favorite finish.This drum was meticulously restored by the expert hands of the esteemed Mr. Joey “Boom” Mekler. Liberty Musical Instrument Co. was an amazing short lived venture between 1926 and 1927. In a fated move, the factory and machinery was sold to Slingerland, allowing them to become the name they are today in the drum world, so you can note all the similarities. This snare bears the markings of a late 20s Slingerland, including the stunning solid 1-ply walnut shell with maple rings. The iconic Sea Green Pearl wrap is in beautiful condition and the drum boasts heavily plated nickel fittings with ten separate tension rods. There is a number engraved in the top hoop as shown in last pic. The strainer is original and fully functional with a period spec replacement lever arm. A sleeker looking period-correct Leedy tone control was installed in place of an older Slingerland model. More evidence of the Slingerland pedigree are found in the holes in the top bearing edge where a patented Tone Flange was originally installed in Slingerland’s attempt to “eliminate the ring and overtones which drummers have worried about for years”. The broad edge gives this snare a deep, fat tone that speaks beautifully, with a voice only a Liberty/Slingerland of this size and vintage can.
